THY's advertising spending has skyrocketed: A staggering figure
It has been revealed that Turkish Airlines (THY), which is often discussed due to the presence of AKP members in its management and the high salaries paid to its executives, spent a fortune on advertising in the first half of the year. Turkish Airlines (THY), which has been on the agenda due to the salaries paid to its board members—including Fatmanur Altun, wife of Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and Melih Şükrü Ecertaş, former head of the AKP Youth Branches and a graduate of Kartal Imam Hatip High School—continues to see its advertising expenses skyrocket.
According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from Birgün, THY's advertising expenditure for the January-June 2024 period reached approximately 3 billion TL. This expenditure represents a 159 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
EXPENDITURE HAS SKYROCKETED
It was learned that THY, which spent 1 billion 719 million TL in the January-June period of 2023, spent 2 billion 732 million TL in the first 6 months of 2024.
The increase in the amount THY pays for advertising and promotion over the years has also drawn attention. THY's advertising expenditure, which was 563 million TL in 2015, 910 million TL in 2017, and 994 million TL in 2019, was listed by year for the January 2021-March 2024 period as follows:
- 2021: 696 million TL
- 2022: 1 billion 847 million TL
- 2023: 4 billion 694 million TL
- 2024 (January-June): 2 billion 732 million TL
Some other expense items for THY for the January-June 2024 period were also included in the financial report. The institution's six-month rental expense was 417 million TL, while consultancy and advisory expenses amounted to 442 million TL. The resources used for maintenance were recorded as 16 billion 313 million TL. It was reported that the resources the institution used for call center service procurement amounted to 535 million TL.
ATTENDANCE FEE PAYMENTS HAVE ALSO SKYROCKETED
At THY, where Fatmanur Altun and AKP member Melih Ecertaş serve on the board, the attendance fee, which was 25 thousand TL in March 2022, has reached 132 thousand TL following successive raises. Attendance fee payments at the institution for certain periods were as follows:
- July 2022: 36 thousand 837 TL
- January 2023: 44 thousand 205 TL
- July 2023: 62 thousand 329 TL
- January 2024: 102 thousand TL
- July 2024: 132 thousand TL
