In a statement released by the IMM-affiliated AKOM, it was noted that precipitation in Istanbul is expected to begin as sleet in the city center and light snow in higher elevations starting from Friday afternoon.

The statement further indicated that the precipitation is expected to continue as light snow across the city starting from Friday evening, and that temperatures are expected to remain 2 to 5 degrees below seasonal norms until Monday, while ranging from seasonal norms to 1 to 3 degrees above them between January 16-25.

The statement warned that "black ice" could form on roads during the winter season due to the rapid cooling of the ground surface on cloudless nights, emphasizing the importance of heeding warnings from the Ice Early Warning System (BEUS) and ensuring necessary checks and interventions are carried out along routes.
