Criminal complaint from TKH: The culprits of the forest fires are clear, greedy bosses and the AKP that hands over the country's resources
The Communist Movement of Turkey (TKH) has filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against relevant individuals and institutions regarding the forest fires that have broken out across Turkey, particularly in İzmir.

TKH Chair Aysel Tekerek filed the criminal complaint against Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, General Manager of the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAŞ) Ömer Sami Yapıcı, the Chairman of the Board of Gdz Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş, the Chairman of the Board of Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş, the Chairman of the Board of Uludağ Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş, the Chairman of the Board of Sakarya Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş, Osmangazi Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş, and other individuals to be identified.
The criminal complaint stated, "In light of the criteria in national and international legislation, we request that an investigation be opened against the suspects and that the necessary actions be taken, as they failed to perform their duties—either intentionally or, at the very least, through negligence—despite being required to carry out public duties, and because electricity distribution companies failed to fulfill their obligations under the specifications in order to earn more profit, thereby fulfilling the material and moral elements of the alleged crime."
The following was noted in the statement issued by the TKH regarding the matter:
"The culprits of the forest fires are clear: Greedy bosses and the AKP that hands over the country's resources!
The forest fires occurring across the country, especially in İzmir, have once again shown that no lessons have been learned from the disasters our country has experienced. It is evident that the government, which 'cannot find the time' to suppress all kinds of opposition through legal operations and to follow up on tender files, cannot produce any solution other than rhetoric in the face of social disasters, especially earthquakes, fires, and floods.
The statement made by the İzmir Governor's Office regarding the origin of the forest fires has revealed the clear truth: The fires were caused by electricity distribution lines!
While electricity distribution lines were handed over to capital through privatization, our forests were sacrificed to the greed for profit of the bosses themselves. Electricity distribution companies that do not perform maintenance and renewal services are responsible for the forest fires.
The AKP government, which yesterday dismantled the electricity generation and distribution institution and handed over electricity distribution services to capital under the name of privatization, is also a primary part of this responsibility.
The handing over of all our country's assets to bosses under the name of privatization has once again shown what a parasitic class the capitalist class is. Let us not forget that capital is an enemy to people, nature, and the country!
The prosecutor's office must take action in line with the statement made by the İzmir Governor's Office.
All privatized electricity distribution lines must be re-nationalized!"
