TKP calls for 'exit from NATO' in Kadıköy

The Istanbul Provincial Organization of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) held a march and press statement in Kadıköy, opposing Turkey's NATO membership and demanding the country's withdrawal from the alliance.

TKP members gathered in front of the Kadıköy Süreyya Opera House, carrying a banner that read "NATO must get out of Turkey." The crowd marched toward Kadıköy Rıhtım, chanting slogans such as "This country, this people are not for sale," "Do not submit, say stop to war," "No force can defeat an organized people," and "Do not submit, take ownership of the country."

TKP Central Committee Member Senem Doruk İnam emphasized in her press statement there that the Middle East is being shaped by imperialist attacks.

Questioning the existence of NATO in her speech, İnam summarized her points as follows:

"Everyone is talking on television. They ask, when will our turn come? Yes, that is a valid question. When will our turn come? But they do not ask this; they do not ask what NATO and the United States of America, which cause these wars, these bombardments, and this darkness, are doing in our country. They do not discuss this, they do not bring it to the agenda. Do you know why they don't bring it to the agenda? Because it does not suit their interests. Because some people come out and say that the presence of NATO in this country, the presence of US bases in this country, is a guarantee for this country. They say the presence of NATO is the country's security. Look, we are saying it very clearly; to those who think that NATO provides security in this country, to those who think that US bases provide security in this country, we say only one thing, friends. Get out of here! Get out of here!"

Stating that NATO is a war organization, İnam noted the following:

"NATO means the United States of America. NATO means imperialism, NATO means opening new doors for the bosses and the wealthy of this country. NATO means putting chains on the independence and freedom of this country. Who does NATO defend? NATO defends the exploiters. At whom does NATO point its weapons? NATO points its weapons at the laborers and the poor. NATO is the armed force of the holding companies. That is why it is the organization of the rich. That is why it is the organization of the imperialists. We, the laborers and the poor of this people, must get rid of NATO and the nuclear weapons that threaten our country in every sense and at every moment from the US bases. Because do you know why? Whenever we stand up for equality and independence in this country, whenever we escalate the struggle, NATO's weapons have been turned against the revolutionaries of this country. They tried to stop us with coups and conspiracies. We are sure that it will be the same from now on. When we stand up, those US bases and those NATO weapons will be aimed at us. We must fight to prevent this. We must discuss NATO. We must discuss what US bases are looking for in our country. We must stand up against those who are bloodthirsty, war-thirsty, and trying to get rich from war. The Communist Party of Turkey is aware of its responsibility. We know very well what we need to do. That is why we are calling on our people to stand up. Stand up to get rid of NATO, dear friends. Fight to get rid of US bases, friends," she said.

In the continuation of her statement, İnam reiterated her call for struggle, stating that if the struggle is not expanded, the situation in the Middle East could reflect on Turkey as well. "We need to be strong, we need to expand the struggle. We have no other choice. We need the poor to take their fate into their own hands. This country does not belong to NATO, which is a death machine and a warmonger; this country does not belong to the occupying United States of America; this country, this land, does not belong to the collaborator AKP; this country is ours. This country belongs to the laborers and intellectuals of this country. That is why come, let us take ownership. Today is that day. The time has come. The time has come for us to expand our struggle against those who have declared war on humanity," she said.
