TKP challenges NATO: We will root it out

During the march from Kolej to Sakarya Square, the TKP chanted slogans such as "NATO Get Out, This Country Is Ours," "Killer NATO, Collaborator AKP," and "A Turkey Without NATO, A Fully Independent Turkey." Following the march, TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan spoke at Sakarya Square.

'THEY ARE THE GREATEST ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE'

In his remarks at the protest, TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan stated, "Adnan Menderes may mean nothing to some of you. But he is sometimes remembered as a hero of democracy in Turkey. This person governed Turkey between 1950 and 1960. Between 1950 and 1960, the influence of the United States in this country deepened so much that everything, even the bread we ate, became dependent on them. In the name of democracy, they are the greatest enemies of the people to have ever settled here. Adnan Menderes is an enemy of the people. Adnan Menderes said this: There is a communist threat in Turkey. To eliminate this threat, we need to take refuge in America and join NATO. So, what is NATO? NATO is like going and signing a contract with a security company when you are sitting in your home and worrying about your safety, thinking, 'Thieves will break into my house, bandits will rob my home.' However, that security company is actually composed of the very thieves, bandits, and tyrants that threaten your home."

'NATO STAGED A COUP IN OUR COUNTRY'

Following his words, "They come and install cameras in your home, they set up an alarm system. Their goal is to watch you in order to rob your home, seize your freedom, and destroy your independence," Okuyan added, "That is exactly what happened; NATO staged a coup in our country. Was there NATO influence behind the March 12 coup? Yes. They committed murders, and all of these were carried out under the orders of Gladio, which was established by NATO. There was a coup attempt on July 15; don't our own people also voice claims that the US was behind that coup? But what happens? We still give them the keys to our house. They install the cameras, they hold everything in our house in their hands. What kind of logic is this, in the name of ensuring our country's security? I really have a hard time understanding this."

'DISCLOSE THE SECRET AGREEMENTS'

Demanding the disclosure of secret agreements Turkey has made with NATO, Okuyan said, "It is said that matters related to the country's security require some secrecy. We agree with this. Not everything is told all the time. You are ensuring the security of a country. But now we say that you are handing over the country's security to the global powers that threaten the region and Turkey, as you yourselves say. That is one thing. Secondly, you share with them what you do not tell us. Now they have invented something called disinformation. Journalists open their mouths. They say, false information, fake news. Friends, then fine. We don't know. We don't know. We are ignorant. Enlighten us. What would happen? Disclose those secret documents. Disclose the secret agreements made with NATO. As a citizen, I am asking. I hear, what is the purpose of the nuclear weapons in Incirlik that are officially in the hands of the United States, which you never admit?"

'THOSE WHO TALK ABOUT NATIONAL SECURITY SHOULD ENLIGHTEN US'

After making the point, "Those who talk about national security should enlighten us," Okuyan remarked, "How does this NATO provide security? But I have doubts in my mind. Because is NATO providing our security, or is it protecting Turkey's holdings and international monopolies? I am asking, I am asking because I am ignorant. I don't know. I want to be sure. For example, I say, they gave Turkey's most important public enterprises, for instance, Telekom, to foreign capital. They bankrupted them, then it went back. Or our refineries, Tüpraş, and so on... Some of these went to foreign capital. Our banks... What kind of security are you talking about? International monopolies have all the information of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey. They are profiling us. After that, is there any security, any national security left?"

'WHAT IS TRULY IMPORTANT FOR US IS FOR NATO TO LEAVE TURKEY'

Regarding those who hold the view that "If we are not a NATO member, NATO will attack us," Okuyan said, "Now, look at the logic for a moment. Okay, if we give the keys to the thieves, they will greet us with a smile, right? That is the explanation for this. Well, let me ask you this: How does Iran stand up to the US, the world's greatest power? Is it because it is a NATO member? War has become the only reality of our time. I shudder when I say this. War is a very big thing. But if we want to live in an independent, developed, industrialized, free, egalitarian country that has overcome poverty, we must settle accounts with this NATO trouble immediately, today. Because NATO continues to enter our midst. The more it comes, the harder Turkey's salvation becomes. Turkey's withdrawal from NATO is an urgent demand. Because if we remove Turkey from NATO, we will also remove NATO from Turkey. What is truly important for us is for NATO to leave Turkey."
