The protests that began in May 2013 to oppose construction work in Istanbul's Gezi Park, which was intended to rebuild the Artillery Barracks, later spread to many parts of Turkey.

Even though 12 years have passed, the resistance of the citizens and the events that took place remain fresh.

The TKP also made a statement regarding this day on its official social media account. The following post was shared from the party's social media account:

"Those who do not bow down gathered at Taksim Tünel Square to salute the June Resistance, which showed that hope for our country and our people should not be lost even in the darkest days, on its 12th anniversary.

This people will not kneel before you, will not bow down!"

'DO NOT BOW DOWN' BANNER HUNG FROM GALATA BRIDGE

TKP Istanbul Provincial Chair Ahmet Dincel addressed those gathered in the square.

While Dincel was giving his speech, the 'Do Not Bow Down' banner, a symbol of the June Resistance, was simultaneously hung from the Galata Bridge.

“Do Not Bow Down, 12 years later, once again in the heart of Istanbul! This country is ours!”
