Trade Minister Bolat: Those who suffer financial losses can sue those calling for a boycott

In his statement, Bolat expressed his deep condemnation of boycott calls made by certain individuals and organizations on social media platforms, such as "Let's stop trade on April 2nd."

Stating that spring begins with April, nature revives, production increases, and the economy becomes more vibrant, Bolat expressed that the Century of Turkey will also be the century of trade.

Reminding that Turkey has increased its growth in the economy and its trade volume by 6.5 times in dollar terms and has provided 11 million new jobs, Bolat characterized the boycott calls as an attempt to cover up the corruption and bribery scandals surrounding municipalities held by the opposition. Bolat continued as follows:

"Boycott calls are an attempt to sabotage the economy. They specifically contain elements of unfair trade and competition. We see this as a futile attempt by circles living in luxury and rent-seeking splendor, who consider themselves the masters and owners of the country, acting with the mindset of 'whatever we want, happens,' but who have been frustrated for 22 years, who see themselves as first-class superior citizens and have reached the arrogance of viewing the vast majority of our people as second-class citizens, and who are fighting a class superiority war within a narrow framework."

"I INVITE EVERYONE TO SHOP"

Bolat pointed out that the necessary actions will certainly be taken within the justice mechanism in terms of the Commercial Code, the Code of Obligations, competition law, criminal law, and national security, and stated the following:

"At this point, I invite our citizens to stand tall against the efforts of this radical minority to disrupt the economy, employment, and the jobs, bread, and income status of our people. I have a call to our citizens: 'If you have shopping plans for today, tomorrow, the day after, or a few days later, we invite you to definitely do your shopping and trade on April 2nd.'

Besides this, I would also like to make a call to the chambers that represent our tradesmen, business people, and companies. I call on tradesmen, chambers of commerce and industry, and commodity exchanges to protect the rights and interests of their members. Because this is their duty.

I invite our citizens, companies, and tradesmen to defeat this sabotage that those who try to direct Turkey from their moccasin chairs and luxurious settings, ignoring the will of the people, are trying to carry out via digital social media against the great successes of the government—which the people have brought to power through elections for 22 years—in the economy, counter-terrorism, stability, foreign policy, and national defense. With God's permission, these efforts will also end in frustration once again."

Stating that Turkey will continue on its path with its political and strong economic stability, having defeated terrorism, Bolat noted that it will heal the wounds of the earthquake and add new successes to its economic achievements by further increasing macro stability, purchasing power, employment opportunities, and the level of welfare in the economy.

Reminding that those who suffer losses in their trade have the right to file a compensation lawsuit, especially regarding efforts to stop trade, Bolat said, "Our tradesmen, company owners, and shareholders who suffer financial losses in their trade due to boycott calls have the right to file a compensation lawsuit within the scope of the law of obligations; no one should have any hesitation about this."
