Tragedy in Manisa: Ambulance involved in accident, patient on board could not be saved

Four medical personnel were injured in a traffic accident involving an ambulance and a truck loaded with plastic pipes in the Kula district of Manisa. 83-year-old Musa Özcan, who was being transferred from Kula to Salihli State Hospital due to a heart attack, was involved in the accident and later passed away from a heart attack after being transferred to a private hospital in Salihli by another ambulance.

The accident occurred around 22:00 on the Kovukdere ramps of the İzmir-Ankara D300 highway. According to the information obtained, the ambulance with license plate 45 AEL 261, driven by Bekir Şahin, which was transporting 83-year-old patient Musa Özcan from Kula State Hospital to Salihli State Hospital with a diagnosis of heart attack, rear-ended a truck with license plate 43 LS 187, driven by İbrahim Demir, while descending the Kovukdere ramps.

Due to the accident caused by the road becoming slippery due to rainy weather, ambulance driver Bekir Şahin (26), emergency doctor Burak Kaan Kaşıkçı (26), and emergency medical technicians Ayşenur Bayram (26) and Meral Tetik (26) were injured.

During the accident, the 83-year-old patient, Musa Özcan (83), who was being transferred from Kula to Salihli, was taken to a private hospital in Salihli by another ambulance that arrived at the scene, accompanied by emergency doctor Burak Kaan Kaşıkçı.



Upon the notification of those who witnessed the accident, numerous ambulances, fire brigade, police, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene. The fire brigade teams, who arrived at the scene in a short time, rescued emergency medical technician Ayşenur Bayram, who was trapped in the ambulance, and handed her over to the medical teams. The 4 injured medical personnel were transferred to nearby hospitals by ambulances after receiving initial intervention at the scene.

PATIENT COULD NOT BE SAVED

On the other hand, 83-year-old Musa Özcan (83), who was transferred to a private hospital in Salihli by another ambulance after the accident, could not be saved despite all interventions and passed away due to a heart attack.
It was learned that the condition of the injured medical personnel is good.

Due to the accident, traffic on the İzmir-Ankara D300 highway in the direction of İzmir was closed for a while. Traffic returned to normal after the ambulance and truck involved in the accident were removed from the road.

An investigation into the accident has been initiated.
