In Gaziemir, İzmir, a municipal bus carrying passengers swerved into a forest area to avoid a collision with a semi-truck that allegedly violated its lane. The truck struck the accordion section of the bus, resulting in 1 death and 4 injuries.

The accident occurred around 07:15 at the Sarnıç Forest Road location in Gaziemir. The driver of the municipal bus (ESHOT) with license plate 34 DA 5430, operating on the Ayrancılar-Sarnıç Transfer Center line, identified as H.D., swerved into a wooded area to avoid a collision with a semi-truck with license plate 34 GF 1118, driven by E.Ç., which was allegedly traveling in the opposite direction and violating its lane.
During this maneuver, the truck struck the accordion section of the bus. As passengers were thrown around inside the bus due to the impact, police, 112 Emergency Health, and fire department teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification.
1 PASSENGER LOST THEIR LIFE
The injured truck driver E.Ç. and 3 passengers were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals by the medical teams that arrived at the scene. Examinations by healthcare workers determined that 43-year-old passenger Erhan Kaya had lost his life at the scene. Kaya's body was taken to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue following the prosecutor's examination.
STATEMENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
In a statement regarding the accident made by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality on social media, the following was stated: “Our ESHOT bus, numbered 705, operating on the Ayrancılar-Sarnıç Transfer Center line, maneuvered to the right at approximately 07:15 at the Sarnıç Forest Road location to avoid a semi-truck coming from the opposite direction that had violated its lane. Despite this, the truck struck the accordion section of the bus. One passenger lost their life in the accident. Three injured passengers are currently under treatment. It has been reported that their general condition is good. We wish God's mercy upon our passenger who lost their life, offer our condolences to their relatives, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. An investigation into the accident is ongoing. We present this to the public's information.”
Meanwhile, it was learned that relatives of the deceased, who arrived at the scene upon hearing the tragic news, suffered nervous breakdowns, and an investigation into the accident has been launched.
