Transformers exploded in that country: They were left without electricity! It had happened 2 years ago too

A transformer explosion in the Central American country of Panama has left large parts of the nation without electricity. According to reports in the local press, a malfunction in a transformer at the Pan Am Power Plant located in the city of La Chorrera caused a large-scale outage.

Panama President Jose Raul Mulino drew attention to the scale of the incident in a post on the social media platform X. Stating that he was also left without electricity in the city of Boquete during the outage, Mulino used the following expressions:

"An unforgivable situation. According to the information I have received, the damage at the power plant is quite serious. This is unacceptable. I will immediately request a detailed report from the National Public Services Authority (ASEP) and the Energy Secretariat. We will take the necessary steps. We have no more tolerance for such poor service."

ASEP Director Zelmar Rodriguez Crespo also confirmed in a statement following the incident that the source of the nationwide power outage was the transformer explosion in La Chorrera. Rodriguez Crespo stated that teams are continuing their efforts to resolve the issue.

IT HAD HAPPENED BEFORE

Panama experienced a similar electricity crisis last year as well. A widespread power outage that occurred across the country in 2023 left millions of people without electricity for a long time, bringing infrastructure problems back to the agenda.
