Statement from Transport Minister Uraloğlu: Will Roblox and Discord be unblocked?

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the gaming platform Roblox and the messaging platform Discord could be reopened.

Speaking on a live broadcast on CNNTürk, Uraloğlu noted that Roblox and Discord could be reopened, saying the following:

"The gaming platform did not have a representative in Turkey; as a result of the sanctions we imposed on them through court orders, they contacted us. We believe that if a platform contains beneficial content, they should remove the harmful parts, and we can continue with the beneficial ones. A dialogue process is underway, and if we reach the right point in that sense, it may be possible for them to be reopened following a legal process.

Regarding responsibilities on social media, how much authority do we have, and how much can we enforce? We have shortcomings. Due to the laws of the countries where they are established, we sometimes receive responses to our requests such as 'we will not comply.' These platforms are being fined in many parts of the world. We will also implement this in the coming days."

On the other hand, the minister spoke as follows regarding the issue of prominence in Google searches:

“The Competition Authority conducted the process. We asked for the reason, and no satisfactory answer was received. The process has currently been completed with the imposition of a fine, but we will continue to monitor the process.”
