Trapped in the dormitory! Attack on a Ministry of National Education district branch manager by the Süleymancılar in Ordu...

Engin Aktaş, the District National Education Branch Manager in Ordu's Çaybaşı district, was assaulted by members of a religious sect allegedly affiliated with the Süleymancılar at the Private İlküvez Boys' Dormitory, where he had gone to conduct inspections. 

HE DISCOVERED 4 STUDENTS WERE NOT REGISTERED

According to a report by Öncü Durmuş from BirGün, District Branch Manager Aktaş noticed two students who were younger than the age limit for the dormitory, which is designated as a middle school dormitory. Upon checking the MEBBİS system, it was revealed that the students were not even registered at the dormitory. When the records were examined, it was found that 4 other students were also not registered at the facility. 

Aktaş then called the gendarmerie to the area, but received the response from the gendarmerie personnel that it was 'outside their jurisdiction'. 

SUBJECTED TO PHYSICAL VIOLENCE

After the gendarmerie personnel left the dormitory, a group of people, allegedly members of the sect, began to gather around the building. Seeing the crowd, Aktaş did not leave the dormitory and called the police, at which point he was subjected to a verbal and then physical attack by a dormitory staff member inside. 

Following the attack, Aktaş called the police to the area and filed a complaint against both the dormitory staff and the gendarmerie personnel.

Aktaş was issued a medical report for temporary disability at the hospital where he was taken before giving his statement. 

ORDU EĞİTİM SEN: THE TARGET IS SECULAR EDUCATION

Ordu Eğitim Sen reacted to the attack.

In a statement issued by the union, it was pointed out that the attack was directed at secular education. 

Emphasizing that the level of reactionary transformation in education has begun to reach a dangerous state, the statement said, "For years, we have been drawing attention to the dangers created by regression, religious indoctrination, and commercialization in education, and we have been fighting for secular, scientific, and public education. The country's resources should be used to meet the education, nutrition, and housing rights of children, who are our future. This incident is not just an incident where an educator who was trying to protect our children and fulfill the responsibilities mandated by law was assaulted. This incident shows the extent of the audacity reached by lawlessness and disregard for the law. This is an open insurrection and is by no means independent of politics."

THEY CALLED ON PROSECUTORS TO ACT

The statement, which said, "Sectarian schools and religious dormitories in education are unacceptable," included the following remarks:

"Those who bury their heads in the sand by dismissing the abuse cases our children experience in sect and religious dormitories with inconceivable statements such as 'it won't happen again,' 'it is an isolated incident,' or 'the child gave consent' are primarily responsible for this incident. The mentality that treats sects and religious communities as interlocutors, legitimizes them, and shares the same mindset is the source of the darkness into which our children are being dragged."  

The statement, which invited Public Prosecutors to take action, noted that Eğitim Sen would follow up on all kinds of attacks against secularism and public education.
