Travel ban imposed on Somali President's son who struck and killed courier in Fatih

A travel ban has been imposed on Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, the son of the Somali President, who caused the death of courier Yunus Emre Göçer in a traffic accident in Istanbul on November 30.

Following public outcry, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided to send the file back to experts for a new assessment regarding Mohamud, who was initially found not at fault in the experts' preliminary report following Yunus Emre Göçer's death. A travel ban was subsequently placed on Mohamud.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also made statements regarding the accident. Stating that no lawsuit has been filed yet and the matter is still in the investigation phase, Minister Tunç noted that the footage of the accident shows a violent rear-end collision.

"MAY IT NOT HAPPEN TO MY ENEMY"

Courier Yunus Emre Göçer's father, Metin Göçer, said in his speech at the funeral, "He was a professional motorcycle rider. My son was not a victim of an accident, but of a murder. I want justice. I want the driver who hit my child to receive the necessary punishment, whoever he may be. I do not want this incident to be covered up. Whether he is the President, the Prime Minister, or a Minister, I want him to receive the necessary punishment. He left two children behind. This is a human tragedy. It happened to me, may it not happen to my enemy," he stated.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The accident occurred on Kennedy Avenue in the Fatih district, at the exit of the Eurasia Tunnel in the direction of Zeytinburnu. The car driven by Mohamud struck Göçer, who was riding a motorcycle, from behind. Göçer, who was thrown by the impact, was severely injured. Despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken, he lost his life.
