Travel ban imposed on Tanju Özcan

It has emerged that the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan due to his decisions regarding Syrian refugees.

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan made a post on social media.

In his post, Özcan stated, "Despite the prosecutor's office stating that there is no need for any judicial control measures, the court has imposed a travel ban on me without even providing a justification."

Özcan expressed the following in his statement:

"In the past, I made certain decisions for Syrian refugees to leave Bolu. There were numerous complaints filed against me regarding these decisions. As a result of these complaints, the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued decisions of non-prosecution (KYOK) multiple times, and these decisions became final.

Despite all this, following a public statement made by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç a few months ago, a new investigation was opened against me on the same subject, even though there were numerous non-prosecution decisions. As a result of the investigation, a lawsuit was filed at the Bolu 6th Criminal Court of First Instance. The court set a hearing date for the case. In the meantime, the judge changed, and the new judge, just a few days before the hearing, suddenly asked the prosecutor's office whether it was necessary to apply judicial control measures, including arrest. Although the prosecutor's office stated that there was no need for any judicial control measures, the court imposed a travel ban on me without even providing a justification.

It is impossible to understand what kind of strange love for refugees this is. I leave this bizarre decision to the conscience of the Turkish nation."
