TRNC Prime Minister Üstel: 131 of 132 survivors from ship accident discharged

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel made a statement regarding the healthcare efforts carried out following the passenger ship disaster that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia.

Üstel stated that health teams were mobilized from the very first minutes of the accident, noting that 21 ambulances and 63 personnel were rapidly dispatched to the port under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, and that 25 doctors and 30 nurses began providing initial interventions at the scene.

Noting that state, university, military, and private hospitals were simultaneously put on alert, Üstel stated that all 239 people rescued alive were transferred to hospitals and underwent the necessary examinations and health checks.

"132 survivors were hospitalized for treatment, 131 survivors have been discharged"

Üstel stated that 132 of the survivors were admitted to hospitals for further examination and treatment, and 4 people were taken into intensive care. Stating that 139 physicians and approximately 200 nurses and healthcare workers served throughout the process, Üstel said that the triage, initial intervention, transfer, and treatment processes of the survivors were carried out in a coordinated manner.

Üstel noted that teams consisting of 19 psychiatry specialists and 17 clinical psychologists provided psychological support to the survivors as well as to the relatives of those who lost their lives and those who are missing. Sharing the latest status of the treatment processes, Üstel announced that as of today, 131 of the 132 survivors admitted to public and university hospitals have been discharged.

Stating that only one survivor continues to receive inpatient treatment and that their health condition is improving rapidly, Üstel reported that there are no survivors left receiving treatment in intensive care.

13 people lost their lives, 15 people are missing

Providing information on the final toll of the accident, Üstel stated that 13 people have lost their lives so far, and that search efforts to reach the 15 missing people are continuing uninterrupted on a 24/7 basis.

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel thanked the healthcare workers who have been on duty since the first moment of the accident and used the following expressions:

"We heartfully thank all our doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, psychologists, ambulance teams, and all healthcare institutions that contributed to the process in our state, private, and university hospitals, who have served with great devotion from the first minute to this day."

Üstel emphasized that the state will continue to stand by the survivors, the missing, and their families with all its resources.
