Truck overturns onto car in Bakırköy: 4 dead
The trailer of a truck with license plate 34 ER 260, driven by Mehmet F. (50) and traveling toward Florya on Rauf Orbay Street in Istanbul, struck the Havuzlu Junction underpass in front of the Bakırköy Yeşilyurt Air Force Academy. Four people lost their lives in the accident.

Istanbul Rauf Orbay Street, traveling in the direction of Florya, the trailer of a truck with license plate 34 ER 260, driven by Mehmet F. (50), struck the Havuzlu Junction underpass in front of the Bakırköy Yeşilyurt Air Force Academy.
Due to the impact, the truck overturned onto a car with license plate 34 TY 3045 traveling on its left side. Following the incident, health, fire, and police teams were dispatched to the area upon notification.
4 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
In the accident, the driver of the car, Recep A. (45), Sultan A. (44), Güler Rukiye A. (67), and Merve A. (16) lost their lives. It was learned that the family was on their way to the Florya Social Facilities for iftar and were originally from Çankırı.
With the help of surrounding citizens and teams, efforts were made to lighten the load by unloading the paper bags from the truck's trailer. Later, the truck's trailer was lifted with the help of a crane, and the car trapped underneath was removed.
While the car, which became unusable, was removed from the scene with the help of a tow truck, work is also underway to remove the truck.
On the other hand, the truck driver, Mehmet F., who was slightly injured in the accident, has been taken into custody.
The Istanbul Governor's Office issued a press release following the incident. The statement is as follows:
"On 11.03.2024, at approximately 18:45, 4 people, including 2 children, who were in a car trapped under a truck that overturned at the Havuzlu Junction underpass in front of the Bakırköy Yeşilyurt Air Force Academy, have lost their lives.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated."
