The 47th US President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire has been reached between Israel and Hamas. There has been no official statement from the parties regarding the matter yet.
"This epic ceasefire agreement could only have happened as a result of our historic victory in November," said Trump, announcing that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between the parties in the Gaza war. Additionally, an official with knowledge of the negotiations told Reuters that an agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in the Gaza war. The agreement, which has not yet been officially announced, includes an initial 6-week ceasefire phase and involves the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
WHAT DOES THE AGREEMENT CONTAIN?
The first phase provides for the release of 33 Israeli hostages, including all women, children, and men over the age of 50. The implementation of the second phase will begin on the 16th day of the first phase, and this part will involve negotiations for the release of all remaining hostages, a permanent ceasefire, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
The third phase is expected to include the return of all remaining bodies and the start of the reconstruction of Gaza under the supervision of Egypt, Qatar, and the United Nations.
