Trustee in Batman fires 40 workers!

The trustee appointed to the Batman Municipality has dismissed 40 workers, including some with 15 years of service. DİSK Genel-İş Union Batman Branch Co-Chairs Narin Erol and Çekdar Özlük visited the workers, who have been holding a sit-in for 11 days, and made a statement.

The Batman Municipality, which had a trustee appointed by the Ministry of Interior, terminated the employment of 20 workers—6 from the municipal corporation and 14 from the Belkent company—in the final hours of 2024, and dismissed another 20 personnel the night before last.

While the sit-in protest of the personnel dismissed in the final hours of 2024 continues, it was learned that 20 more workers were dismissed the night before last. DİSK/Genel-İş Union Co-Chair Narin Erol, who has been keeping watch with the workers in front of the union building for 8 days, said, "In the struggle we have been waging for ten days for the first 20 people whose employment was terminated, we had shared our concern with the public that new ones would be added to them. Today, we see how right we were in our concerns. As long as the union and the workers are left alone in this struggle, neither the dismissals will end nor will municipal workers be able to go to their jobs in peace. We call out to all segments with a conscience. Come, let us stop this worker massacre together."
