Posters containing striking political messages have been hung on billboards belonging to the IMM located on the E-5, one of Istanbul's major transportation arteries, particularly in the Yenibosna area. The billboards featured the phrases “IETT buses are breaking down. Istanbulites are suffering the ordeal” and “Your life is slipping away,” highlighting disruptions in public transportation services.

According to a report in Sözcü, following various investigations launched into the IMM, 24 companies that operate thousands of billboards in three major cities—12 of which are advertising agencies—were transferred to public administration, and trustees were appointed to these companies. Following these developments, propaganda efforts by different political parties have become more visible in the advertising spaces owned by the municipality.

On the other hand, after Ekrem İmamoğlu was elected Mayor of the IMM following the 2019 local elections, large-scale photographs of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and various campaign slogans had also been displayed on these same billboards.
