TÜİK announced: How many children are there in Turkey?

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released child statistics for the year 2023.
According to the results of the Address Based Population Registration System, while Turkey's population was 85 million 372 thousand 377 people as of the end of 2023, 22 million 206 thousand 34 of them were recorded as children.
Of the child population, 51.3 percent were boys and 48.7 percent were girls.
According to the United Nations definition, the child population, which includes the 0-17 age group, accounted for 48.5 percent of the total population in 1970, while this rate was 41.8 percent in 1990 and 26 percent in 2023.
According to population projections, the child population rate is expected to be 25.6 percent in 2030, 23.3 percent in 2040, 20.4 percent in 2060, and 19 percent in 2080.
When the child population rates of the 27 European Union (EU) member countries are examined, the EU average for the child population rate in 2023 was 18 percent.
Among EU member countries, the countries with the highest child population rates were recorded as Ireland with 23.4 percent, France with 21.1 percent, and Sweden with 20.9 percent, respectively.
The countries with the lowest child population rates were determined to be Malta with 15.1 percent, Italy with 15.4 percent, and Portugal with 15.9 percent, respectively.
It was observed that Turkey's child population rate is higher than that of the EU member countries.
