TÜİK announces: Most preferred male and female names revealed
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the most commonly used male and female names in Turkey. According to data released by TÜİK, names such as Alparslan, Göktuğ, Ömer Asaf, Metehan, Defne, Asel, Asya, and Zümra have been frequently given to babies in recent years.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released data based on population statistics, revealing the most commonly used first and last names across the country.
According to the data announced by TÜİK, the most common male name in Turkey is 'Mehmet' (1 million 298 thousand 836), while the most common female name is 'Fatma' (1 million 177 thousand 80).

It was also stated that the most common surnames across the country are 'Yılmaz' (1 million 171 thousand 14), 'Kaya' (888 thousand 828), and 'Demir' (864 thousand 643).
NAMES GIVEN TO BABIES IN RECENT YEARS
In recent years, the frequency of names given to babies such as 'Alparslan', 'Göktuğ', 'Ömer Asaf', 'Metehan', 'Defne', 'Asel', 'Asya', and 'Zümra' has drawn attention.
MOST COMMON NAMES IN SAMSUN
In Samsun, the province with the highest birth rate in the Black Sea Region, the most common male name was announced as 'Mustafa' (18 thousand 874), and the most common female name as 'Fatma' (22 thousand 788).
MOST POPULAR NAMES GIVEN TO BABIES IN SAMSUN
According to TÜİK data, the most popular name given to baby boys born in 2023 was 'Alparslan' with 235. This was followed by 'Göktuğ' (138) and 'Metehan' (84). Among baby girls in Samsun, the name 'Asel' (116) ranked 1st, followed by 'Defne' (111) and 'Zümra' (106).

On the other hand, among the 18 provinces in the Black Sea Region, 'Alparslan' was the most popular name given to baby boys born in 2023 in Amasya, Artvin, Bartın, Bayburt, Bolu, Düzce, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Karabük, Kastamonu, Tokat, Trabzon, Zonguldak, and Rize, with the exception of Çorum. In Çorum, 'Göktuğ' was the most popular male name.
Additionally, 'Asel' was recorded as the most popular name given to baby girls in Artvin, Bartın, Bolu, Çorum, Düzce, Samsun, Sinop, Kastamonu, and Rize. In Amasya, Ordu, Giresun, and Karabük, the most popular name for baby girls was 'Defne'. In Rize and Tokat, the name 'Asya' was given most frequently to baby girls.
