TÜİK announces: Unemployment rate fell to 8.2 percent in the first quarter of the year

In the first quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate declined to 8.2 percent, marking a significant drop. According to TÜİK data, the number of unemployed people decreased by 183 thousand to 2 million 884 thousand.

According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent in the first quarter of 2025. This rate represents a 0.4 percentage point decrease compared to the previous quarter. The number of unemployed people fell by 183 thousand to 2 million 884 thousand. The unemployment rate was determined to be 6.6 percent for men and 11.2 percent for women.

The total number of employed people decreased to 32 million 389 thousand, and the employment rate was recorded at 48.9 percent. While the employment rate for men was 66.3 percent, this rate was 31.9 percent for women.

The labor force participation rate was announced as 53.3 percent. The labor force decreased by 449 thousand to 35 million 273 thousand. The labor force participation rate was 71.0 percent for men and 36.0 percent for women.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AT 15 PERCENT

The unemployment rate for the youth population in the 15-24 age group was determined to be 15.0 percent. This rate was estimated at 10.8 percent for men and 22.7 percent for women.

The actual average weekly working hours, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, was 43.5 hours. This duration represents an increase of 0.6 hours compared to the previous quarter.

The idle labor force rate was measured at 28.5 percent. The combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was calculated at 18.4 percent, while the combined rate of potential labor force and unemployment was calculated at 19.6 percent.
