Tunç Soyer’s prison diary: I hope this is my last post here as a farewell note

Former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, in his “prison diary” shared on the 103rd day of his detention, said “Let there be a future” and expressed his hope ahead of the second hearing on October 13, saying, “I hope this will be the last of these posts.”

Soyer published a text titled “Prison Diary” on his X account. In the text, which he began by saying, “The other day I shared the 100 days spent in prison with numbers, now I want to write about the things I could not count,” Soyer noted the following:

“Plenty of sadness, very little joy, very little music, a bit of anger, plenty of dreams, plenty of ideas, little conversation, little gossip, more knowledge, deeper emotion, most of all resistance, infinite affection, infinite love…”

In his assessment of breath and time, Soyer stated, “Here, I have realized the value of every single breath, every single minute more,” adding, “There is no return or compensation for any minute that passes.”

Regarding the second hearing to be held on October 13, Soyer said, “I hope these lines I am writing today will be my last prison diary entry.” Thanking his family, Soyer also mentioned his daughter Defne’s birthday in his message, sharing, “She came every day (sometimes twice a day) for 103 days… It was she, above all, and my family and you, my dear friends, who lightened the weight of this.” For his wife Neptün Soyer, he said, “I am glad you exist, Neptün! Knowing that you brought Defne to me every day and waited at the door for hours is an indescribable happiness.”

Tunç Soyer concluded his message with the following words:

"I thank each and every one of you for your letters, your greetings, your love that pierces through walls and iron bars, your faith, and the beautiful energy you have made me feel.

Thank you, may you be well!

I love you all very much.

I hope to reunite and embrace you with longing in 3 days.

I hope this diary will be my last post here as a farewell note.

Let there be a future..!"
