Turkey condemned to darkness! Reaction to 'daylight saving time' from İmamoğlu: 'The one who made the decision is nowhere to be found'
The daylight saving time policy, which was implemented under the pretext of "energy savings" during the period when Berat Albayrak was the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, continues to be applied years later. While many citizens have complained about the issue, a reaction also came from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. İmamoğlu said, "The one who made the decision is nowhere to be found, the decision has no logic, and as for savings, there are none at all..."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the permanent daylight saving time policy that was implemented during the period when Berat Albayrak was the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
"The one who made the decision is nowhere to be found, the decision has no logic, and as for savings, there are none at all..." said the İBB Mayor, stating the following on X:
"The one who made the decision is nowhere to be found, the decision has no logic, and as for savings, there are none at all... This meaningless #DaylightSavingTime policy has no benefits, causes security problems, makes everyone depressed, and starts the day off badly for workers and students. GIVE UP THIS POLICY NOW!"

WHAT IS THE DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME POLICY?
The permanent daylight saving time policy in Turkey began with the Council of Ministers Decree dated September 7, 2016, during the tenure of Berat Albayrak, the son-in-law of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. The "advanced time" policy became permanent with a decision published in the Official Gazette on October 2, 2018.
