Turkey has made its decision for NATO Secretary General
Turkey has informed other members of the alliance that it will support the candidacy of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the new NATO Secretary General position.

According to information received from Turkish officials, Turkey has announced that it will support Rutte for the new NATO Secretary General position.
Following Rutte's meeting with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul last week to request support for the NATO Secretary General position, Turkey informed NATO members today that it would support Rutte.
President Erdoğan held a one-on-one meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rutte, who visited Turkey on April 26, at the Vahdettin Pavilion.
Mark Rutte stated during the joint press conference held that NATO's southern flank needs Turkey and Turkey's leadership.
Dutch Prime Minister Rutte said, "Turkey plays a decisive role. In doing so, it is making efforts to resolve the situation in Gaza. At the same time, it has efforts regarding this terrible war in Ukraine. In that respect, you are playing an important role."
