It has been announced that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has decided on a ceasefire between Gaza and Israel for the duration of Ramadan.

A previous draft, initiated by the US calling for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire and hostage exchange, was vetoed on Friday by permanent members Russia and China.

The resolution draft submitted by Washington called for an "immediate and sustained ceasefire" lasting approximately six weeks that would protect civilians and allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli stated regarding the Gaza resolution at the UNSC, "We view this as a positive step. Our hope is that Israel will fulfill the requirements of this resolution as soon as possible."
