Turkish Airlines launches new flights to Sydney and Santiago

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Turkish Airlines (THY) will organize new flights to Sydney and Santiago. Uraloğlu made a written statement regarding the matter.

Stating that direct flights to the Australian city of Sydney will begin tomorrow (Thursday, November 28) and to the Chilean city of Santiago on Wednesday, December 18, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure noted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has held meetings with many countries regarding the determination of intermediate points.

Uraloğlu said, "We have reached an agreement with Malaysia. As of tomorrow, THY's Istanbul-Sydney flights will begin with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur. After the Melbourne flights it launched this year, THY will start serving a second destination in Australia by beginning to fly to Sydney."

Noting that flights to Sydney will be operated from Istanbul Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, Uraloğlu stated, "The aircraft will first stop at Kuala Lumpur Airport in the capital of Malaysia and refuel. After spending 70 minutes there, it will continue its journey to Sydney. The first aircraft will take off from Istanbul Airport at 13:15 and land at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport at 16:30 the next day. The aircraft departing from Sydney will take off at 20:40 and land at Istanbul Airport at 10:15 the next day."

Minister Uraloğlu stated that as of December 18, 2024, THY will begin operating flights 4 times a week on the Istanbul-Santiago route, adding, "Our country's flag carrier, THY, will complete its flights from Istanbul to Chile by first arriving in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and from there to Santiago, the capital of Chile. Thus, THY will have operated a flight to Chile for the first time."

Noting that flights from Istanbul will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, Uraloğlu commented, "The aircraft with a stopover in Sao Paulo will take off from Istanbul at 20:35 and arrive in Santiago at 09:45. On return flights, the aircraft departing from Santiago at 11:40 will land at Istanbul Airport at 11:20. Our flight network, which reached 348 points with Sydney, will increase to 349 with the start of Santiago flights."
