Turkish F-16s shoot down UAV over the Black Sea: 'In a safe area'

The Ministry of National Defense reported that after tracking a suspicious aerial trace approaching the airspace over the Black Sea, F-16s under NATO and national control were scrambled for an alert reaction mission. The unmanned aerial vehicle, which was determined to have gone out of control, was neutralized outside of a residential area.

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) determined to have gone out of control in the Black Sea was shot down anddestroyedas a result.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense, it was stated that an aerial trace approaching Turkish airspace over the Black Sea was detected and, in accordance with routine procedures, was placed under surveillance.

In order to ensure the security of the airspace, F-16s under NATO and national control were assigned an alert reaction mission. The statement, which pointed to this, included the following:

"SIt was determined that the aerial trace in question was an unmanned aerial vehicle that had gone out of control, and in order to prevent any negative incidents, it was shot down in a safe area outside of a residential zone. It was neutralized."
