Izzet Eren, the leader of a gang composed of Turks known in England as the "Tottenham Boys," has been killed in an armed attack in Moldova. Eren, who was struck by seven bullets, lost his life.

According to a report by Kısa Dalga writer Cengiz Erdinç, Izzet Eren, the leader of the Tottenham Boys gang—which operates in the drug market in London, the capital of England, and consists primarily of Turks—was killed in an armed attack at a cafe in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, on Wednesday.

Eren had been convicted in London in the 1990s for drug-related crimes, returned to London after being deported, and was arrested in 2015 with a loaded handgun and a machine gun just before an attack.

In 2016, his nephew, Ozcan Eren, made an unsuccessful attempt to help him escape while he was being transported to court in a police van.

In the incident, which resulted in a gang member being shot, an Uzi automatic pistol was found in the vehicle. Gokay Sogucakli, who was tried alongside Eren, also received a five-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

Izzet Eren, who was sentenced to a total of 21 years in prison, was extradited to Turkey in 2019 but escaped from prison a month later. It was noted that Eren, who was captured in Moldova on May 26, 2022, was released despite an extradition request from England.

EREN'S NAME HAD BEEN LINKED TO ATTACKS AND MURDERS

The name of Izzet Eren, the leader of the Tottenham Turks gang, had been linked to attacks and murders carried out due to drugs in the 1990s.

The Times newspaper claimed that "the drug market war between street gangs in England masks state-sponsored attacks against Turkish dissidents."

A similar murder took place in Barcelona on May 4, 2024, when Ilmettin Aytekin, known as Tekin Kartal, was shot and killed with five bullets in the Sant Marti Forum area just after having dinner at a restaurant with Abdullah Baybasin; the assailant was not found.
