Turkish Parliament's Sweden decision published in the Official Gazette

The law finding the ratification of the protocol on Sweden's accession to NATO appropriate has been published in the duplicate issue of the Official Gazette.

Sweden's NATO accession protocol has been included in the duplicate issue of the Official Gazette.

The decision published in the Official Gazette is as follows:

"LAW ON THE APPROVAL OF THE RATIFICATION OF THE PROTOCOL ON THE ACCESSION OF THE KINGDOM OF SWEDEN TO THE NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY

Law No. 7492

Date of Acceptance: 23/1/2024

ARTICLE 1- (1) The ratification of the “Protocol on the Accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty”, signed in Brussels on 5 July 2022, has been found appropriate.

ARTICLE 2- (1) This Law enters into force on the date of its publication.

ARTICLE 3- (1) The President executes the provisions of this Law.

VOTING RESULT IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The protocol regarding the approval of Sweden's NATO membership process had been accepted in the Parliament General Assembly. In the voting at the General Assembly, the AK Party, CHP, and MHP voted "yes," while the IYI Party, Saadet Party, and DEM Party voted "no."

HUNGARY WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON THE "NATO VISA"

Hungary will have the final say on Sweden's NATO membership. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had announced that his country supports Sweden's NATO membership. The Hungarian Parliament, which is currently closed, will discuss and decide on Sweden's NATO membership after it reconvenes in February.

Following the decision, there will be no obstacles left for Sweden's NATO membership.
