Two sisters were murdered in Nusaybin: Detained suspect commits suicide

In the incident that occurred on January 4 on Aram Street in the 8 Mart neighborhood of Nusaybin, security forces and medical teams entered a house following a report. Syrian citizen Sümeyye Khaled Abira (41) and her older sister Süheyla Özdaş (44) were found shot to death in the home. Medical teams confirmed that both sisters had lost their lives, and their bodies were taken to the hospital morgue for autopsy procedures. The sisters' remains were later sent to their home country for burial.

As part of the investigation, a special team was formed by the Provincial Security Directorate to shed light on the incident. The suspect's identity was determined by examining the City Security Management System (KGYS) and surrounding security cameras. As the investigation deepened following the incident, Muhiddin Bağlan (59), a truck driver who lived with Abira in a religious marriage, was apprehended and taken into custody as a result of an operation. After his procedures at the police station, Bağlan was referred to the courthouse, where he was arrested by the court and sent to a prison in Diyarbakır.

DIED IN PRISON

It was learned that Muhiddin Bağlan committed suicide by hanging himself last night at the Diyarbakır Penal Institution where he was being held. It was reported that despite all interventions after officials noticed the incident, Bağlan lost his life. His body was buried in the Nusaybin Hacılar Cemetery following autopsy procedures.

A judicial investigation has been launched regarding the incident and the death in prison.
