A person named A.T., who previously worked as a security guard at the Giresun Social Sciences High School, murdered Rana Çavuş Gökçin, who worked as a cleaning staff member at the school, and her sister Yonca Çavuş. A statement regarding the murder, which caused widespread outrage, came from CHP Giresun Deputy Elvan Işık Gezmiş.
Reminding that the killer, A.T., had numerous prior criminal records, she asked the question, "How did this person become a public servant?"
'IMPUNITY ENCOURAGES'
In her written statement, Gezmiş used the following expressions:
“Employing this person as a security guard at a school means disregarding the lives of our children and our education workers. In this context, in addition to the judicial investigation into the individual in question, an administrative and judicial investigation must be urgently opened into those responsible for hiring this person into a public worker position. The policies the government has implemented for years have reached a point where they threaten safety even in schools. This incident cannot be covered up. We have said many times that 'impunity encourages.' I want it to be known that I will follow this incident to the end.”
