Ümit Özdağ reacts to the term 'Türkiyeli': Özgür Özel had used it
Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ has reacted to the term “Türkiyeli” (person from Turkey) used by Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel. In a post on the social media platform X, Özdağ expressed his criticism, stating, “Our name is Turk, Mr. Özel, not Türkiyeli.”

In his post, Özdağ emphasized imperialism and separatism, arguing that the term “Türkiyeli” is incompatible with Atatürk's path. He also recalled that Atatürk wanted every Turkish citizen to memorize certain verses, and included the following lines:
“Our name is our oath. We lay down our lives for its path.
We consider being a Turk the greatest glory, the greatest honor.”
With these words, Ümit Özdağ stated that the concept of “Türkiyeli” is an empty discourse, asserting that those who hesitate to defend the name of the Turkish Nation cannot defend the nation's rights and sovereignty.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's use of the term “Türkiyeli” had previously sparked reactions from various political segments in the public eye.
You cannot defend the rights and sovereignty of the Turkish Nation, whose name you hesitate to speak. You cannot walk the path of Atatürk with a concept like 'Türkiyeli,' which is an empty product of imperialism and separatism.
