Ümit Özdağ recalls his dispute with former Minister Soylu: 'If I could have walked there, I would have beaten him'

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was a guest of journalist Ruşen Çakır on the Medyascope YouTube channel yesterday, in a program titled "How ambitious is the Zafer Party in the local elections?"

Responding to questions from viewers during the program, Chairman Özdağ addressed a question regarding Süleyman Soylu: "We were expecting a duel, what happened, did it end when he left the Ministry?" Özdağ, who replied, "No one can curse at my mother," said the following:

"WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THIS WERE SAID TO YOU"

"Süleyman Soylu insulted me in a speech in Antalya, and in his speech at the Migration Management, and I was asked about this in parliament. I wasn't even aware of the insult. Journalists had heard it; the incident happened on the same day. I read it, it was a truly severe insult. I went to court. The court acquitted him. If I said this (the insult) to that judge, the judge would throw me in jail. I invite the judges to have a little conscience... What would you do if this were said to you?"

"I SAID I AM COMING"

"'But you are a politician.' Fine, I am a politician; a politician accepts more criticism, but you cannot insult me, especially while you are in the position of a Minister. Then he went on a television program and insulted me again. Upon that, I held a press conference, just an hour later. I said, 'I am coming, I am coming unarmed.' Look, I am being sincere; if he had stood in front of the Ministry of Interior and challenged me alone, and if I had been able to walk that far, I would have beaten him. That is why I went anyway. No one can curse at my mother. My mother is a lawyer, she is 84 years old."

"THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY IS SOYLU HIMSELF"

"My brother, you have all the state's documents in your hands, and he says 'Soros child'! Soros says 'Let the Syrians stay in Turkey.' The one working for the Syrians to stay in Turkey... I am working for them to leave. The person responsible for the realization of Soros's project is Süleyman Soylu himself. What could he (Süleyman Soylu) have done? He could have come out and said, 'Mr. Ümit, excuse me, let's have a coffee.' It takes being a man to do that; he didn't do it."
