The problem of 'unappointed' teachers continues to grow with each passing day.

According to a report by BirGün based on data from the Ministry of National Education (MEB), in 2023, a total of 163 thousand 644 applications were received for contract teacher appointments. Only 27 percent of the thousands of teachers who applied were appointed. The number of applications received within the scope of national athlete appointments was 573.

According to the analysis, which also sheds light on the problem of more than 500 thousand unappointed teachers due to the Education Faculties opened one after another, only three out of every 10 teachers who applied for contract teacher appointments were able to reach their students.

Accordingly, in 2023, only 45 thousand 753 of the 163 thousand 644 teachers who applied for contract teaching appointments were appointed. The rate of meeting appointment applications remained at 27.96 percent.

The rates by year are listed as follows:

• 2020: 38.87 percent

• 2021: 43.36 percent

The MEB was also unable to meet the teachers' requests for relocation based on excuses. In 2023, only 27 thousand 667 of the 111 thousand 982 teachers who wanted to change provinces by citing an excuse had their change requests fulfilled.
