In an incident that took place recently in Istanbul's Ümraniye district, Police Officer Şeyda Yılmaz was wounded in the neck after a suspect, who had been apprehended for 'motorcycle theft' and subsequently escaped, opened fire during an operation to capture him. Despite all interventions at the hospital where she was taken, Yılmaz could not be saved and lost her life. Following Yılmaz's death, her dream of becoming a martyr has come to light.
“SHE USED TO SAY, 'UNCLE, I WILL BE A POLICE OFFICER AND BE MARTYRED'”
Her uncle, Mustafa Yaman, stated that Şeyda had said during her primary school years that she would become a police officer and be martyred, saying, “She was someone full of life, with ideals, who loved her country and her nation. From primary school until now, she would say, ‘Uncle, I will be a police officer and be martyred.’ And she got what she wanted. Words cannot describe it. She was going to take leave and come in the morning. She was going to be here. May God send her here to us as a wish. She was newly married. One year, on August 4th. She stayed in İzmir for 3 months. From there, she was reassigned to be with her husband. She loved everyone. May the nation endure.”
Her tearful father, Mehmet Yağlı, said, “May God protect all our security forces from all kinds of evil and trouble. I wish health and well-being to them all,” he said.
