Union struggle in Turkey is sounding the alarm! It increased by only 0.8 percent in one year

The number of unionized workers across Turkey rose from 2 million 330 thousand 98 in January 2023 to 2 million 495 thousand 423.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security's "Communiqué on the Statistics for January 2024 Regarding the Number of Workers in Business Lines and the Number of Members of Unions, in Accordance with the Law No. 6356 on Trade Unions and Collective Labor Agreements" has been published in the Official Gazette.

Accordingly, 2 million 495 thousand 423 of the 16 million 395 thousand 275 workers, corresponding to 15.22 percent, are members of a labor union.

Thus, the number of unionized workers, which was 2 million 330 thousand 98 in January of last year, increased by 165 thousand 325 people (0.8 percent).

Among the 20 total business lines, the business line with the highest number of workers was "commerce, office, education, and fine arts" with 4 million 222 thousand 728 workers. This was followed by the "metal" business line with 1 million 976 thousand 475 workers and the "construction" business line with 1 million 670 thousand 363 workers.

Hizmet-İş Union ranked first among all labor unions with its 301 thousand 456 members. Hizmet-İş was followed by the Türk Metal Union with 282 thousand 715 members and the Öz Sağlık-İş Union with 203 thousand 424 members.
