The requirements for the recruitment of an Assistant Professor for the Turkish Folk Literature department within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which include "having studies on Turkish folk poetry and having taught courses at higher education institutions," have sparked controversy.
According to a report by Odatv, under the regulation introduced by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in 2021, it was decided that job postings for academics cannot include the names of postgraduate or specialization theses, either in part or in full, as application requirements, nor can they include specific conditions that define only a particular candidate; this decision was published in the Official Gazette.
The requirement of "having studies on Turkish folk poetry" set for the Turkish Folk Literature department has come to the fore for being contrary to the regulation established by YÖK.
