University student who threw 'Faruk' the cat from the 5th floor identified: Taken into custody

An investigation was launched following allegations on social media that a teacher threw the school's cat, Faruk, from the 5th floor during an IELTS exam held at a school in Levent, Beşiktaş. The investigation revealed that the person identified as a teacher was actually a university student named Ferhat A. Upon the prosecutor's instructions, Ferhat A. was taken into custody.

Information shared on social media in recent days prompted police teams to take action.

Posts on various social media accounts stated: “A teacher who came from another school to the Levent campus of the Terakki Foundation Schools for an IELTS exam recently threw the school's beloved cat, Faruk, from the 5th floor during the exam. When students went to the window to see what happened to the cat, they were threatened with being barred from taking the exam again. Cat Faruk has two broken legs and internal bleeding; he was alive when the students found him, but his condition is currently critical.”

REVEALED TO BE A UNIVERSITY STUDENT

Following these posts, an investigation was launched under the instruction of the prosecutor's office. Teams from the Public Security Branch Office's Environmental, Nature, and Animal Protection Bureau initiated an investigation to determine whether such an incident had occurred.

The investigation revealed that the person who threw the cat from the 5th floor during the exam was Ferhat A., a student in the philosophy department at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.

TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Ferhat A., who was identified as being on duty on the day of the exam, was taken into custody upon the prosecutor's instructions. After the completion of the procedures, Ferhat A. will be referred to the courthouse today.
