Upper limit coming for residential complex maintenance fees: New regulation in parliament

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum stated that a new draft law is ready to increase both transparency and oversight against the exorbitant maintenance fee hikes that residents complain about the most. According to Minister Kurum's statement, the comprehensive legislative work prepared will be submitted for the approval of members of parliament.

Emphasizing that site maintenance fees, which increase every year, can no longer be raised randomly and without justification, Kurum said, "Maintenance fee increases will in no way be above inflation, and arbitrary price hike practices will be prevented."

Reminding that under current practices, site management companies are not subject to sufficient oversight and that they have received numerous complaints from citizens, Kurum emphasized that the new regulation being prepared will address this deficiency.

Once the law enters into force, companies managing residential complexes will be both certified and classified by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Furthermore, these companies will be audited by the state at least once a year. It was stated that the ministry will quickly initiate audits in the event of an increase in complaints.

Thanks to the regulation made to prevent artificially inflated maintenance fees, it is aimed to provide greater economic protection for residents. Minister Kurum stated, "We are acting in line with the legitimate demands of our citizens. With the new regulation, no one will be able to increase maintenance fees as they please; the practice will be entirely dependent on legislation."
