CHP Mayor of Urla, İzmir, Selçuk Balkan, announced that the municipality, which was managed by a trustee for 4.5 years, has a total debt of 224 million 957 thousand 331 TL.

Selçuk Balkan displayed the debt left by the trustee to the public by hanging it on the municipal building.

"NOT TO EXPOSE CIVIL SERVANTS..."

Balkan stated the following:

"We have posted this table to inform our public as the first step of our transparency management approach at Urla Municipality. Our goal is not to expose the administrators and civil servants who served, nor to create a 'settling of scores' with the past. What we have done is a situation assessment created by taking data from the municipality's records, and it is to inform our people about this matter."

"Already in 2020, 8 municipal properties were transferred to the Treasury to be offset against tax debts within the scope of Provisional Article 8 of Law No. 6183. Again, in 2022, one property was transferred to be offset against SGK (Social Security Institution) debts. Throughout the 5 years that we will manage with a transparent municipal approach, the municipality's financial statement will be shared every year after the final accounts. Before taking office, both our citizens and our municipal council members had demands on this issue. We have fulfilled our promise."
