An important statement has been made by the US Department of State regarding Turkey's purchase of new-generation F-16 Block 70 fighter jets and the modernization of its existing inventory.
In a statement made by US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller, it was stated that "Turkey has signed the letter of offer and acceptance to purchase F-16 fighter jets."
"AN IMPORTANT STEP HAS BEEN TAKEN"
US Ambassador to Ankara Jeffry Flake, in a statement he made today, gave the message that the sale of F-16s to Turkey is nearing completion, stating, "An important step forward was taken today regarding Turkey's procurement of the latest generation F-16 Block 70 fighter jets and the modernization of its existing F-16 fleet."
Making a statement via his social media account, Flake said, "This is a good step for US national security, Turkey's national security, and NATO interoperability. Thanks to the Turkish Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their hard work."
The Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the US Department of State had previously assessed the F-16 fighter jets, which Turkey agreed to purchase in January, by stating, "The United States is proud to announce that an important step forward was taken today regarding Turkey's purchase of the most advanced new F-16 Block 70 fighter jets ever produced, which are provided only to the closest allies and partners. This is just one of the latest examples of the United States' unwavering commitment to the security partnership it has established with Turkey."
