Warning from the US to its citizens in Turkey

The US Embassy has issued a new security alert for its citizens in Turkey. The alert noted that "demonstrations criticizing Washington's foreign policy continue in Turkey."

Stating that physical attacks against US-origin businesses in Turkey are ongoing, the announcement noted that individuals working at these locations have also been injured during the protests.

"MINIMIZE PUBLIC EVENTS"

Pointing out that tensions can escalate during protests that begin peacefully, the statement indicated that "due to the increase in anti-American activity, US government personnel in Turkey have been advised to minimize public events and movements, to avoid wearing clothing that displays US signs or logos, to avoid drawing attention to their nationality, and to avoid traveling to the US Consulate in Adana in southeastern Turkey."

"REPRESENTATIONS IN ADANA AND IZMIR WILL REMAIN CLOSED"

The statement also included information that the Adana Consulate and the US representation in Izmir will remain closed.

EVENTS IN ADANA

Following the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, protests were held in many places across Turkey, and reactions were also shown against Washington's support for Tel Aviv.

Following Israel's bombing of the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital on October 17, citizens gathered in front of the US Consulate in Adana with Turkish and Palestinian flags in their hands.

After the speeches, a group threw stones at the consulate and attempted to enter the premises.

Following this protest, in which the police also intervened, the US had announced that the consulate in Adana would remain closed until further notice.
