Van-Tehran train services resume after a 5-year hiatus
The Tehran-Van passenger train services, which were suspended due to the pandemic, are resuming after a 5-year break. The first train will depart from Tehran on March 9, 2025, and tickets will go on sale tomorrow.

As a result of negotiations between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and an Iranian delegation, it has been decided to resume the Van-Tabriz train services. The services, which were halted in 2020 due to the pandemic, are returning to operation after a hiatus of approximately 5 years.
The first train departing from Tehran will set off on March 9, 2025, while the first service from Van to Tehran will begin on March 10, 2025. Ticket sales will start as of tomorrow, and the ticket price between Van and Tehran has been set at 24.90 Euros (approximately 930 TL).
Cevdet Özgökçe, President of the TÜRSAB Eastern Anatolia Regional Executive Board, stated that the train services were shelved with the pandemic.
Expressing that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has made an announcement in this direction and that ticket sales will begin tomorrow, Özgökçe said, "God willing, passenger transport will also begin within the month of March. We hope that this development will be beneficial for both countries in terms of both tourism and trade. The train offers an important alternative in transportation. It will be a good option, especially for those with heavy luggage or those who want to take a nostalgic journey."
Stating that ticket sales are currently not being handled by agencies, Özgökçe added, "We are in talks with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure on this matter. For now, tickets will be available for purchase through the State Railways website. Additionally, there will be ticket sales stations at the train stations as well," he said.
