'Van' tension at Çağlayan Courthouse! Istanbul Governor's Office issues statement

Tension arose between police and a group of 100 people who wanted to hold a press conference regarding the events in Van.

The Istanbul Governor's Office issued a statement regarding a group that gathered in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse around 1:00 PM to hold a press conference about the events in Van.

The Governor's Office stated the following:

"On 03.04.2024, at approximately 1:00 PM, a group of 100 people gathered in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse and wanted to hold a press conference regarding the events in Van.

Our security forces, who had taken the necessary precautions prior to the incident, warned the group to disperse, stating that the press conference they intended to hold was unauthorized. Our security forces intervened when the group ignored the warnings and moved to enter the Çağlayan Courthouse. As a result of the intervention, 8 women and 6 men were detained, and the rest of the group was removed from the courthouse premises.

Judicial proceedings have been initiated against the individuals apprehended in connection with the incident for Violation of Law No. 2911, Resisting a Public Officer, Resisting to Prevent the Performance of Duty, and Damaging Public Property; the group of 14 people was released by judicial authorities after their procedures were completed, with their files to be submitted subsequently."
