Dr. Meriç Kahraman, the wife of Gezi prisoner Tayfun Kahraman, shared a picture their daughter Vera drew for her father for Father's Day.

Meriç Kahraman said the following in her post:

"Vera made the drawing she shows in the video for Father's Day. It might seem simple, but there is a reality behind it that has been going on for 112 weeks. Every Friday, Vera goes to meet a superhero without a cape. That hero prepares for the one-hour visits with great seriousness. Vera has her best laughs once a week, on Friday, while talking to her father whom she sees behind the glass. Tayfun uses the glass partition that separates us like a stage, putting on shows, enchanting Vera with magnificent stories he makes up, and entertaining her by imitating various animals; he adorns Vera's dreams by telling her fairy tales that he writes, wishing he could read them to her at night. When the 'visit is over' announcement comes and the phones are turned off, he uses this short time to perform pantomime until the guards come to take him away. Vera is always excited on Friday mornings. Although she was hesitant at first, she now automatically raises her hands when she sees the prison guards, and her eyes light up the moment she sees her father in the prison where she enters after being thoroughly searched. For 1 hour, we become the happiest family in the world. We spend the remaining 6 days and 23 hours waiting for this one hour. Tayfun makes us forget all the remaining difficult hours in that 1 hour. Vera talks about the exciting stories she hears from her father during that visit throughout the week. Tayfun, on the other hand, prepares for the next 1 hour throughout the week. 112 visits, 112 flawless performances.

'HAPPY FATHER'S DAY'

He manages to come up with something creative at every visit. Every time, we go wondering, 'What will he do this time?' He mobilizes his limited means—drawings, letters, 10-minute phone calls—to communicate with his daughter. Instead of being crushed under the weight of injustice and giving up on life, we have a hero who prepares every week with great seriousness just so there can be one more smile on Vera's face. Everyone is a witness that he approaches his nature, his city, his country, and his people with the same love and care. Vera has added the cape her hero doesn't see and drawn his picture. She prepared it to give to her father. But we won't be able to deliver it, because such handicrafts are forbidden from entering the prison. I am sure Tayfun will find a story to entertain Vera even about this. That's how heroes are... I'm glad you are the father of our home, our family, Tayfun Kahraman. How happy for us. Happy Father's Day."
