In the retrial concerning the bomb attack that took place on March 13, 2016, at Güvenpark in Kızılay, Ankara, which resulted in the deaths of 36 people, the primary defendant, Mehmet Veysi Dolaşan, was sentenced to 5,172 years in prison.
The trial regarding the bomb attack carried out by the PKK at the bus stops in Güvenpark, Kızılay, Ankara, on March 13, 2016—which left 36 people dead and 341 injured—resumed following a reversal decision by the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation concerning some of the defendants.
While the detained defendants Velat Cin and Mehmet Veysi Dolaşan attended the hearing at the Ankara 4th High Criminal Court via the SEGBİS video conferencing system, legal counsel for the parties and the complainants were present in the courtroom. The presiding judge stated that a verdict would be reached in this session and gave the floor to the defendants.
Denying the charges, detained defendant Mehmet Veysi Dolaşan said, “Everything is clear. It is still being said that the incident was planned. They have caught someone, who is that Veysi, so they say let’s pin every crime, every act on him. This is not justice.”
Detained defendant Velat Cin also stated that he reiterated his previous testimonies and requested his release. Following the statements of the defendants and their lawyers, the court panel announced its verdict.
Defendant Mehmet Veysi Dolaşan was sentenced to 960 years in prison for aiding in the murder of 32 people by bombing. Dolaşan was also given 120 years in prison for the deaths of 4 children, consisting of 30 years for each. Dolaşan, who was sentenced to 384 years in prison for the attempted murder of 32 people in the case, also received 3,708 years in prison for the 'attempted murder' of 309 people.
The court ruled to separate the files of defendants Halil İbrahim Demirci and Uğur Ayçil, while sentencing Velat Cin to 12 years in prison for 'membership in an armed terrorist organization' and defendant Neval Basut to 1 year and 6 months in prison for 'making propaganda for a terrorist organization.'
Defendant Rıdvan Tekin was acquitted of the charge of 'hijacking or detaining means of transportation.'
