The incident occurred yesterday around 17:00 at the PTT Chief Directorate building in the Mermerdelen neighborhood of the city center. The attacker, identified as Hakan K., had requested to take a card belonging to his father, but staff informed him that they could not provide it to him.

Following the ensuing argument, Hakan K. drew a pistol from his waistband and severely wounded PTT Acting Manager Selim Okumuş and cleaning staff member Ömer Beyazıt.

The victims lost their lives at Rize State Hospital, where they had been taken, while Hakan K., who fled the scene, was captured shortly after by police teams in a building where he was hiding in the Mermerdelen neighborhood.

The suspect, who was taken into custody, was arrested by the court following his processing at the police station on charges of 'killing a public official on duty' and 'possession of an unlicensed firearm.'

The individual was brought to the Rize Courthouse under heavy security measures and was sent to the Rize L-Type Closed Penal Execution Institution.

On the other hand, it was learned that the suspect had previously been arrested for the crime of wounding a person with a firearm, was released under judicial control, and also had a criminal record including assault and carrying a weapon.
