Verdict reached in the case of the shooting at Sedat Peker's house
A verdict has been reached in the trial of the defendants who carried out an armed attack on the Istanbul Beykoz home of organized crime leader Sedat Peker. Defendant Ömer Şengel, who fired shots at Peker's employees, was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

An armed attack was carried out on Sedat Peker's home in Beykoz on September 4, 2022. The attacker, Ömer Şengel, was apprehended in Sancaktepe after the attack along with the weapon used.
According to the report by Seyhan Avşar from HalkTV.com.tr, the indictment prepared by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that Ömer Şengel fired three shots with the intent to kill Yılmaz Günay, an employee of Sedat Peker, and requested that Şengel be punished for the crimes of "Attempted intentional homicide" and "Purchasing unlicensed firearms and ammunition."
Şengel was included in the indictment as both a suspect and a complainant. The indictment also requested that the house employees Yaşar Sarıhan and Ogün Şavkin, who fired back at Ömer Şengel, be punished for the crime of "Attempted intentional simple injury with a weapon."
The Anatolian 20th High Criminal Court, which heard the case regarding the attack on Peker's employees, held the final hearing recently.
'I REGRET IT' HE SAID
When asked for his final words, defendant Ömer Şengel said, "I was not given a right to live. I did not go to the house with the intent to kill anyone. I did not come to Istanbul to shoot anyone. I had my belongings in my car. When I arrived in Istanbul, I learned the truth about İlay (allegedly his girlfriend). I wanted to talk to the person named Yılmaz. I committed the crime when the Turkmen friend there insulted me. I regret it."
Announcing its verdict, the court panel sentenced defendant Ömer Şengel to 10 years in prison for "Attempted intentional homicide" and 1 year in prison for "Purchasing unlicensed firearms and ammunition." Regarding Peker's employees Yaşar Sarıhan and Ogün Şavkin, the court panel sentenced them to 1 month and 15 days in prison for the crime of "Attempted intentional simple injury with a weapon." Additionally, Sarıhan was sentenced to 10 months in prison for the crime of "Purchasing unlicensed firearms and ammunition."
