1 soldier was martyred: Controversial statement from Minister Güler! 'They sent one drone yesterday, and it hit our Mehmetçik'

National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler answered questions from journalists regarding current issues at a reception held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Ceremony Hall on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the TBMM and the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

In response to a question regarding the martyrdom of Infantry Specialist Corporal Berat Mecit Day, who was heavily wounded in a treacherous attack that took place in the Claw-Lock Operation region on April 22, Güler made the following statement:

"Regarding a Turkey without terrorism, we are continuing our efforts to sustain this. Hopefully, we will reach a Turkey without terrorism. In the meantime, they sent one drone yesterday, and it hit our Mehmetçik, and we took him to the hospital. We couldn't save him; he was martyred. May God have mercy on his soul."

While emphasizing his determination for the goal of a "Turkey without terrorism," Güler also touched upon the debates regarding the disarmament process of the members of the terrorist organization. In response to a question about the possible role of the Erbil administration in this process, he stated that the conditions previously mentioned are still valid. He clearly expressed these conditions with the following words:

"The conditions we stated before are valid. You will disband. You will surrender your weapons. You will surrender. There are three conditions."

Upon a journalist's question, "Well, where will the weapons be surrendered?", Güler gave a short and clear answer:

"They will be told where."

Making evaluations regarding the defense industry, Güler gave the following answer to a question asked about Germany's stance in the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet procurement process:

"There is nothing definitive at the moment. The process is continuing exactly as it is with everything. Everything is continuing. Our business is not with Germany, but with the UK. We will see in the coming period. Everything with us is continuing just as it started and as we planned."

The Minister, who was also faced with questions about the F-35 program, drew attention to the importance of President Erdoğan's diplomatic contacts on this issue. Regarding the F-16 procurement process, Güler emphasized that there were no disruptions:

"The F-16 process is also continuing exactly as planned."
